Who said Saskatchewan was flat?

Tuesday, 04 May 2010 14:05

One thing we noticed when we moved to Winnipeg is that Saskatchewan is the Joke of the Prairies, or the Mid-West. Everyone makes Saskatchewan jokes—they say its flat and that there’s nothing there. I am a Maritimer. Where I’m from, everyone makes Newfie Jokes! I figured there would be more Maritime Jokes around the West—but much to my surprise there aren’t!—or maybe people are just polite around me haha. Saskatchewan is not even flat! And there are plenty of WONDERFUL people there. I am so loving all the rural towns in Saskatchewan—the billets and churches are amazing and they make us feel so at home. I got stuck in a nice farmer’s yard and he helped me out. Okay here is the background on what happened: We were going to a small town, we actually drove through it because we missed it—it was THAT small, and then we because the van is nearly impossible to turn around on a country highway. SO I went into his yard to turn around and got stuck in a snow bank there. We caught the whole scenario on video. The man turned our van around for us and as he was leaving the van my HUGE can of hairspray fell out and he picked it up and handed it to me, I was like, “uhh, thanks” (How embarrassing, he probably thinks we’re huge girly-girls). So anyway, back to the point—Saskatchewan isn’t flat. There’s tons of hills. This pic was taken at the side of the road, before we hit the bird! We needed some pics of us on the side of the road with hills in the background!  I love you Saskatchewan!!!

Youthquake

YouthQuake is an awesome event for youth Groups from all over the Prairies that happens every Winter. It was so fun to present there, we were very well cared for and saw the best speakers and artists. We saw Matt Maher, Group1Crew, House of Heroes, and Sid Koop.  We did three mini-events, in 2 days. It was really fun to sit back and enjoy all of the people and presenters there. It was really fun to be surrounded by so many young people. It was awesome cause Kassie Tyers came with us, and I got to hear her speak again. Her speaking at the BUgirl event last year inspired me and was one of the reasons I came to BUgirl—I wanted to share my story with girls just like she did. Now, I do!

I hope we get to go to YouthQuake again Next Year!

Presenting at conferences is really fun—it’s a different pace from road life on tour, and I love both!
